Use of Indonesian at International Conferences in Indonesia
LETIGES – Since the publication of Presidential Decree No. 63 of 2019 regarding the Use of Indonesian Language, which replaced Presidential Decree No. 16 of 2010, it should be acknowledged. The Presidential Decree emphasises that the use of Indonesian is encouraged for international activities held in Indonesia. Therefore, activities such as International Conferences must be conducted in Indonesian, the national language.
This presidential regulation is the basis for permitting international conference events to be conducted in Indonesian; therefore, foreign participants must be prepared with translators. Therefore, the Presidential Decree can be optimal if there is an Indonesian commitment to safeguarding the national language as a symbol of state identity.***
